OKUMA CONSERVATION PARTNERS

American Sportfishing Association (ASA) For over 90 years, ASA has been leading the way for sportfishing’s future. Our mission is to look out for the interests of the sportfishing industry and the entire recreational fishing community.

Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) The Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) was born out of necessity in 1977 when commercial overfishing had dangerously depleted redfish and speckled trout populations along the Texas coast. In response, 14 dedicated recreational anglers convened in a local tackle shop to form the Gulf Coast Conservation Association, marking the dawn of a transformative conservation movement. Their efforts culminated in significant victories hardly four years later, including outlawing gill nets along the Texas coast and designating red drum and speckled trout as game fish. Their unprecedented success ignited a new era in marine resource conservation and gave rise to the now-famous "Save the Redfish" campaign. This movement soon drew the attention of anglers across the Gulf, leading to the formation of chapters all along the Gulf Coast by 1985. By the early 1990s, the CCA had extended its reach to the South- and Mid-Atlantic regions, and in 2015, a California chapter was created. The CCA has consistently demonstrated that anglers make the best stewards of the marine environment, working tirelessly to protect the health, habitat, and sustainability of our marine resources, as well as recreational anglers' access to the resources they hold dear.

Sharkathon Sharkathon, a non-profit established by surf fishermen, aims to promote catch-and-release initiatives and broaden their reach to more anglers. Initially influenced by other catch-and-release shark fishermen and the Texas Shark Rodeo, Sharkathon has transformed from an idea on Padre Island to a successful tournament series with increasing participation and substantial prizes. Proceeds from Sharkathon fund educational experiences for underprivileged children in the Coastal Bend and support other non-profit organizations like Friends of Padre and Texas A&M Corpus Christi's shark tagging program. The goal is to create a sustainable fishing community where the only things taken from the sea are lasting memories and photograph.

COMMUNITY

Our involvement in kids fishing initiatives and new angler education programs, goes beyond just teaching a child to fish; it's about building lasting memories, encouraging a healthy lifestyle, and cultivating a community that values its natural resources. Through these initiatives, we aim to pass on the joy of fishing to the next generation, ensuring the future of the sport and the conservation of our waterways for years to come.

Captain Rollo’s Kids at Sea For a variety of circumstances, many youngsters are not afforded the opportunity to experience the wonders of being on the ocean learning about the ecosystems in our coastal waters. Enjoying a day on the water, feeling the ocean breeze, viewing marine life in its natural habitat, and experiencing the joy of fishing can truly broaden a child’s horizons perhaps becoming a life-changing experience. We partner with other organizations to provide even more chances for kids to go fishing at various scheduled fresh and saltwater events. Captain Rollo’s Kids at Sea welcomes all groups of kids to experience a day on the water. We serve groups of kids from all walks of life, including but not limited to; special needs, school groups, church groups, inner city, and club groups. Captain Rollo’s Kids at Sea funds half day fishing trips on Coast Guard approved vessels at Ports from San Diego to San Francisco.
